Our Approach

At Step-Change Management, we are committed to work jointly with our clients to effectively address their critical business issue: effective merger of an acquired company; divestiture of a non-core business and consolidation/ repositioning of the remaining businesses; or driving bottom-line, sustainable business improvements through a major change initiative.

  
Our approach is reflective of over 20 years of lessons learned in achieving business results as both line managers and management consultants. We have found that success occurs when we are working in a

“hands- on” role with joint client teams, providing content and expertise but leveraging the skills and business knowledge of the in-house resources. It is critical that we not only bring business merger and transformation expertise, but that we are able to quickly demonstrate an ability to work within an organization’s culture to drive the resulting change programs.

 

While we are adaptive and flexible to any client organization we work in, our typical approach is as follows:

  • Spend initial time to build a basis for working together on your critical business issue. This means demonstrating both content expertise as well as demonstrating the capability to effectively work within your organization.
     
  • Clarify roles and responsibilities as well as specific resource requirements, so we fill your skill and resource gaps, but also effectively leverage your team members.
     
  • Leverage the work that you have done to date and use your processes and approaches, unless you prefer that we use our proven methodologies and tools.
     
  • Deliver experienced professionals with the requisite content skills, and an average of over 20 years of experience, to work on a full-time basis in joint teams with your team members. (Note: e.g., merger integration and large operational improvement efforts are so important, so dynamic, and so challenging that we need to be on-site and positioned as need be to work 24/7 on your behalf).
     
  • Operate at a fast pace; doing “real work in the trenches” with performance measured by results achieved and activities performed, rather than number of hours billed.
     
  • Deliver pragmatic solutions and recommendations with independence, honesty, professionalism and objectivity.
     
  • As needed, take on interim management roles and become defacto members of the organization and the management team.
     
  • Operate as change agents, managing the people involved through the change process and remaining sensitive to the people and culture issues that can create barriers to success.
     
  • Become a virtual team to the organization, able to flex up or down as the resource and skill requirements of the project change.
     
  • Constantly earn the right to work with the organization, deliver measurable business value, and continue to have trust and credibility with your management.

Step-Change Management was created because we believed that an alternative model to traditional consulting firms was needed. We wanted to work in-hand with client organizations to help them make a difference in their business. We believed there was a need for a management consulting firm that had a more attractive pricing structure; had people with the real depth and knowledge actually doing the work; maintained a more client-centric focus on what needed to be done and how it needed to be done; took personal responsibility for achieving results and making decisions; and had proven competency in the critical business areas of business mergers, consolidations and transformations.
