Step-Change works with senior executives in consulting roles on their critical business initiatives. Typically these include market repositioning, significant profit improvements, operations effectiveness/efficiency, and change of ownership issues (e.g., mergers or divestitures). Client:
  Large chemical company


Challenge:  Non-profitable $700M business division in danger of being shutdown or sold. General Manager feared being fired.


Process:  Developed a business case for change ($30M+ in cost reductions, $20M in revenue enhancements, $10M in cash flow increases.) Outlined an action plan and migrated into a 9-month project to achieve same.


Results:  Exceeded expected business benefits by over 20%, (a 220% return on their investment in us within 18 months.) This work led to additional assignments in other divisions. Benefits to these divisions were 5-10 times the cost of our services.



Client:
  Regional Telecommunications Company


Challenge:  IT division was viewed as a cost center, not a service center: performance was poor; alignment with business needs was weak; costs were high; and responsiveness to their customers was almost nonexistent.
 

Process:  Designed and implemented a program to improve IT effectiveness, applications development, operating expenses and capital budget, user interfaces, strategic alignment, and management/staff responsibilities.
 

Results: $30M+ in cost savings and $20M+ were in reduction/deferment of capital budget expenditures within 9 months. Programs for operations effectiveness, greater user responsiveness, and business alignment created longer term cost avoidance and value enhancement.

  Consumer products company


Challenge:  Underperformance of the business operations and lack of effective information systems.


Process:  Designed and drove a program of new and enhanced application systems, greater usage of new technologies, and changes in systems and development processes. Overhead and support costs were restructured. Additional initiatives were launched to improve customer relationship management, core sales, advertising, and support processes.


Results:  The company repositioned itself more effectively in the marketplace, increased its overall operations effectiveness, and reduced operating costs as a percent of sales. This work led to additional engagements in the Canadian and European divisions and an expansion of work in the IT area.
